Valerie draws inspiration from the natural world, mythology and the enduring power of storytelling. Working primarily in painting, alongside printmaking and sculpture, she explores the connections between ancient beliefs, contemporary concerns and the human experience. Her work brings together imagination, symbolism and expressive colour to explore themes of transformation, memory, identity and belonging. Underlying her practice is a continuing interest in environmental fragility, social justice and the often-overlooked voices of women.
